Sic Parvis Magna

In typical “overthinker” fashion, the idea of this blog came about long before the blog itself. During the COVID pandemic I, and much of the rest of the world, were forced into a scary new reality coupled with a few days/weeks of lockdown to sit in the uncertainty and think and then to over think!

During this time, I did at least have the luxury of a Playstation 4 and the Uncharted series and in this strange set of circumstances a phrase that would usually have simply passed through my consciousness stuck and found a home there, “Sic Parvis Magna”.

Said to have been etched on a ring belonging to Sir Francis Drake, a man born to a modest family and apprenticed aboard a trading ship who went on to circumnavigate the globe, challenge the Spanish Armada, and leave an enduring legacy.

The phrase translates to “Greatness from small beginnings” and I cannot imagine a better motto at any stage in life, whether you are at the top of the mountain that you set yourself to climb and humble yourself by knowing that it all started from small beginnings or whether you are at the bottom of the mountain in front of you and wondering how to get to the top, always remember that all greatness starts from small beginnings.

So today, instead of over thinking how this blog will work, I have taken that first small step.
The blog I thought up in the quiet of lockdown is finally coming to life.

To anyone reading this who’s been sitting on an idea, a dream, or a plan — stuck in the loop of overthinking — I offer this:

Sic Parvis Magna.
You don’t need all the answers.
You just need to begin.
